Community unites against violence on women

Women in a Victorian community rocked by three recent killings are demanding an end to male violence.

The Ballarat region’s Samantha Murphy, Rebecca Young and Hannah McGuire have allegedly died at the hands of men since the beginning of February.

A rally will begin at Ballarat train station on Friday before gathering at nearby Camp Street, where family members of the victims, community leaders and family violence specialists will address the gathering.

Organiser, Sissy Austin, who was herself savagely attacked while on a run in 2023, said the issue was a national crisis.

„Us Ballarat women, we’re coming together to stand in solidarity, to feel less alone and to show the country we’re united,“ she told AAP.

„We’re here to fight for our rights to live safely in our community for generations to come.

„The Ballarat community aren’t going to succumb to the violence that has been perpetrated in our town.“

One in four Australian women and roughly one in 14 men have been subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner since age 15, Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, women who temporarily separate from abusive partners often face continued or increased violence.

Ms Austin said the three killings in a little over two months had stunned the community.

„Women are living on eggshells,“ she said.

„No one feels like they can safely go on a bushwalk around the beautiful bushlands that surround Ballarat.“

A search for Ms Murphy’s body at Enfield State Park on Thursday was unsuccessful but a scaled back search continued on Friday.

Womens Health Grampians chief executive Marianne Hendron announced a partnership with local council to drive community education.

Ms Austin said the issue was a national crisis that needed to be called out.

„The most immediate thing we need to do, particularly as women, https://chungchinghecacloai.com/ is unite and show men who choose to use violence in our community that we stand against it,“ she said on Wednesday.

„Enough is enough.“

Coronavirus Affecting Education Globally

The rapid spread of the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, in many countries caused widespread school closure around the world to mitigate the development of a full-blown pandemic. This abrupt decision saved lives as it protected people from getting infected and continues to prevent more possible damages of the pandemic. However, global school closure greatly affects the education sector causing delays in classes and changes in the education system.

Education is an important aspect of a life and of a society. It helps a person have a better chance to compete in the workforce and a society to have better economic growth. Poor access to education leads to poverty which is why governments are working hard to deliver quality education to their constituents. This is also the reason why governments are eager to pursue schools reopening in the midst of a pandemic despite the limited preparations.

One of the options to continue education while we are still experiencing the threat of the COVID-19 is to bring education to online platforms. With the use of computers and internet connection, teachers and students can conduct classes while staying at home. This is a great alternative to traditional frontal classes as it ensures absolute social distancing which is necessary to prevent the spread of the disease.

However, many students may not be able to participate in online classes because of the lack of the necessary resources. Only 60% of the global student population have access to a computer and internet connectivity. A situation that causes disadvantages to children in poverty.

Another alternative to traditional classes is modular learning systems in which teachers provide printed instructional materials with activity pages to test the students‘ understanding. This also applies social distancing as teachers will spend limited time with their students. Teachers will only need to deliver the modules and assess the students at the end of every term or course. No need to gather all of the students in a crowd which can spread the disease.

The disadvantage of modular learning system is that parents need to take more of the responsibility in helping their children to understand the lessons. This worries some parents especially those who have limited education as they may not be able to provide proper education to their children. On a news interview in Asia, a father said „It’s okay if my child is still in kinder or elementary but she is now in High School. How can I help her if I only finished grade 4?“

School closure and changes in the education system caused significant impacts on families. Many families especially in low-income countries rely on schools not only for education but for food and childcare. Some schools provide free meals for their students which are taken advantage by parents who are in poverty. Hence, school closure causes hunger to millions of children across the world. In addition, many parents are forced to leave their work as they have to take care of their young children which affects the family’s income.

Many children may not be able to enroll this year because of the difficulty of the new education methods. This can cause early marriage which can greatly contribute to poverty.

The changes in the education system caused by the Coronavirus are challenging for children, parents, and society. Delivering education using new methods is risk-taking but is necessary to prevent further damage from the pandemic. There could be failures in these abrupt changes but there are also advantages such as innovating the traditional education system that we have been using for hundreds of years. Perhaps we need these challenges to have the courage to try new things like adopting technologies in education.

Biden White House woos TikTok stars by canceling their student loans

The White House continues to court social media influencers on TikTok, despite President Joe Biden threatening their livelihood by supporting a ban on the platform.

Their latest briefing featured the president’s new plan to cancel student loans, as they invited a group of about 30 social media influencers to the White House for a special briefing.

The president and Vice President Kamala Harris kicked off the week announcing plans to wipe out another $7.4 billion in student loan debt for 277,000 borrowers.

Popular political influencers such as Harry Sisson, with over 850,000 followers on TikTok and Vitus Shehar, with over three million followers on TikTok with Under the Desk News were present for the briefing.

The White House welcomed about 30 social media influencers to the White House to talk about student loan forgiveness

Viviann Anguiano, lam bang cap 3 the Director of Education on President Biden’s domestic policy council, addressed the group together with Neera Tanden, President Biden’s Domestic Policy Council.

Together they reassured the group that they, among other young Americans, would not have to pay part of their student loans, thanks to the actions by President Biden.

Not all of the influencers were currently paying off student loans but some were more thrilled by the news as they were personally affected.

Some in the the group were hesitant, according to one person who was present, knowing that Biden’s first attempt to cancel student loans was blocked by the Supreme Court.

Anguiano reassured them that they viewed the Supreme Court’s ruling as wrong, and that they were using different authorities this time in reaction to the ruling.

‚We’re doing everything we can to ensure that — as we view broader fixes on our proposals that those are being provided and the relief is being provided to borrowers,‘ she said.

The White House continues pushing forward on the student loan issue despite likely court challenges which could easily result in the plan being rolled back. But the president and his team will likely reap the political benefits of the issue in time for the 2024 election.

Biden cancels $7.4 bln in student debt for 277,000 borrowers

April 12 (Reuters) – The Biden administration will cancel $7.4 billion in student debt for 277,000 borrowers, the White House said on Friday, the latest in a series of debt cancellations.

President Joe Biden announced plans on Monday to ease student debt that would benefit at least 23 million Americans, addressing a key issue for young voters whose support he needs as he seeks re-election in November.

Those plans include canceling up to $20,000 of accrued and capitalized interest for borrowers, regardless of income, which Biden’s administration estimates would eliminate the entirety of that interest for 23 million borrowers.

The latest round of debt relief affects 277,000 Americans enrolled in the SAVE Plan, other borrowers enrolled in Income-Driven Repayment plans, and borrowers receiving Public Service Loan Forgiveness, the White House said in a statement.

It follows an announcement

in March

that $6 billion in student loans would be canceled for 78,000 borrowers.

The administration said on Friday it has approved $153 billion in student debt relief for 4.3 million Americans.

Biden, a Democrat, last year pledged to find other avenues for https://chungchinghecacloai.com/ tackling debt relief after the U.S. Supreme Court in June blocked his broader plan to cancel $430 billion in student loan debt.

The campaign of former President Donald Trump, Biden’s Republican challenger in the White House race, in March criticized the student loan cancellation as a bailout that was done „without a single act of Congress.“

The issue remains high on the agenda of younger voters, many of whom have concerns about Biden’s foreign policy on the war in Gaza and fault him for not achieving greater debt forgiveness.

Republicans have called Biden’s student loan forgiveness approach an overreach of his authority and an unfair benefit to college-educated borrowers while other borrowers received no such relief.

Roughly half of federal student loan debt is held by people with a graduate degree, according to the Brookings Institution think tank. An August 2023 report by the Department of Education said graduate students received the highest share – 47 percent – of federal student loan disbursements from 2021-22, even though they accounted for only 21 percent of all borrowers.
